So how does this crazy catfish wrangling work? It's all about getting down and dirty with nature. We'll teach you to scan the shoreline for likely catfish holes – usually submerged logs, rocky outcroppings, or muddy banks. Then comes the fun part: you'll wade in, take a deep breath, and reach into those underwater hidey-holes. When you feel that catfish, it's go time! You'll need to grab it by the mouth (don't worry, their teeth are more like sandpaper than razors) and wrestle it to the surface. It's a full-body workout and an incredible rush when you emerge victorious with a massive catfish in your arms. We provide all the gear you'll need, including gloves to protect your hands and safety equipment. All you need to bring is your sense of adventure, a valid fishing license, and maybe a change of clothes – trust us, you're gonna get wet!

Channel Catfish are the bread and butter of Lake Tawakoni noodling. These sleek swimmers average 2-4 pounds but can grow much larger. They're known for their fight and their flavor – nothing beats fresh-caught channel cat for dinner. Spring and early summer are prime time for noodling these guys, as they hunker down in spawning holes. Channel cats are curious by nature, which makes them perfect for hand-fishing. When you feel that telltale nibble on your fingers, get ready for some excitement!
Flathead Catfish are the true trophies of noodling. These behemoths can grow over 50 pounds, and landing one by hand is the ultimate noodling achievement. Flatheads are ambush predators, preferring deep, dark holes where they can lurk and wait for prey. This makes them ideal (if somewhat intimidating) noodling targets. They're most active in the warmer months, so summer trips offer the best shot at tangling with one of these giants. Just remember – if you feel something in that hole that feels way too big, it probably is!
There's something addictive about noodling that keeps folks coming back for more. Maybe it's the primal thrill of hand-to-fin combat with a powerful fish. Our trips are perfect for bachelor parties, family outings, or just a group of friends looking for an offbeat adventure. Flathead catfish are the bruisers of Lake Tawakoni. These big boys can grow over 3 feet long and top 100 pounds. You'll find them lurking in deep pools and slow-moving sections with plenty of cover. They're ambush predators, so look for submerged logs, rock piles, and other structure where they can hide. Flatheads are most active at night, especially in summer. That's when we go after them with live bait - bluegill or small carp work great. These cats want their dinner kicking, so keep that bait lively. Folks love targeting flatheads for the challenge and their tasty, firm white meat. Landing a big one is a real accomplishment. They fight hard and can be stubborn to budge from their hidey-holes. Here's a local trick: We sometimes use duck decoys to lure flatheads out. The vibrations from a bobbing decoy can draw curious cats from their lairs. It's an old-timer technique that still works wonders. Just be ready for a battle when that monster hits!
Channel cats are the bread and butter of Lake Tawakoni fishing. These whiskered critters usually run 2-10 pounds, but 20-pounders aren't unheard of. You'll find them all over the lake, from shallow flats to deeper channels. These cats aren't picky eaters. They'll go for stinkbait, cut bait, worms - you name it. That makes them fun for all skill levels. Kids love catching them, and there's always a chance of hooking into a bigger one. Channel cats are most active at dawn and dusk. Spring and fall are prime times, but you can catch them year-round. They tend to school up, so where you catch one, there's likely more. Folks enjoy targeting channels for their consistent action and good eating. They put up a decent fight, especially on lighter tackle. Plus, they're just plain fun to catch. Pro tip: Try drifting with cut bait to cover more water. When you find a hot spot, anchor up and get ready for some fast action. Fresh caught channels make for some mighty fine fish fries, too!
